Rafting on Cerna, the king of whitewaters
Cerna is the King of the rivers from Romania. The landscape and the difficulty of the section makes this a "must paddle" for every rafting enthusiast.
The Cerna has its source on the south-east side of the Godeanu Mountains and flows into the Danube near the town Orșova. The upper part of the river is sometimes called Cernișoara. With a basin of 1433 square km and a length of 84 km, it carves an erosive tectonic valley with numerous gorges, quite deep sometimes. There is an artificial reservoir on it (Tierna), just before it crosses the Băile Herculane spa, to perpetuate the old toponimic od Dierna. The upper course of the Cerna is part of the Domogled-Valea Cernei national park.
The rafting on the two route provides a wonderful experience. The river-bed is narrow with a lots of curves, big stones and rocks. Often happens that we dont have any option to choose the direction, there is only one way to go. It is a steep river e little waterfalls are one after the other.
The rafting routes on Cerna are taken step by step, we stop as often as it takes to make sure that the next session is safe to paddle.
